Summer Learning Journey:Day 5, Part 2

Because the World War (2) was over, life in New Zealand was returning to normal. Soldiers were settling back into their life, and sports teams were getting together and playing matches against each other. Families would go and watch these games. Men came in hat and a suit and women came wearing dresses, hats and gloves. Our second task for today is to compare the style of clothing from the late 1940s to what we wear today (2017). Are they similar or quite different?

Activity 2-
Late 1940s-

They would always wear something nice. Even at home or just going out. Girls/Women would always wear a dress whist boys/men wore a tidy suit. Both had their hair nicely done. With hair gel and hair clips etc. If you were to wear socks, you would have to always pull them up (especially at school).

Now days-

If going to an event, women would wear dresses. There are many styles of dresses. Different colours, sizes, shape etc. Men would wear a suit to an event. Or jeans and a nice shirt. They are nicely designed. If we are just at home, we might wear something like t-shirt and shorts or if it is cold, long sleeves and track pants. We have nice shoes also. Girls get boots, high heels etc. Men get boots (not as high heel), snekers etc.

Similarities-
The both do their job.
If we go to an event, we dress up nicely.

  1. Hey there Lauren, my name is Billy and I am from the Summer Learning Journey programme. It's been great reading your blog posts and seeing how hard you've been working over the summer break. I hope you keep it up all summer!

You've done a fantastic job comparing today's fashion with the fashion of the past. I like how you've identified that today we wear clothes to suit a purpose, whether it's going to work, a wedding, a friend's place, the beach, or just lazing around at home. It seemed as though people of the past wore the same thing at different times and mostly dressed the same as their friends.

Nowadays it seems as though you can wear what you like and are free to express yourself. Which I think is great.

What do you think the fashion in the future will be like?
