Summer Learning Journey:Day 1, Bonus Activity

The bonus activity for today is to read the Flanders Field poem by John Mccrae. The poem is about the soldiers in New Zealand and Australia who died in the World War 1. We have to write down what our opinion is about it. Do we like it? Why or why not?

Bonus Activity-
In my opinion it has a good backstory. I feel sorry for the soldiers who got killed for their country. We are such a free country and we are lucky because of that. I mean, how many people would give their life for their country? I like how in the beginning, they mentioned the poppies. Poppies are a resemblance of the people that died. In the second paragraph, it was talking as if they were the people who died. It said how they felt the warm sun and the drawn a few days ago. But now they are dead. The part that stood out to me was the 'Loved and were Loved' part. It talks about how their families loved them. But now that they are dead, they were once loved. I couldn't imagine life without my loved ones. I have already experienced two deaths to two cats I once owned this year. They are only cats, but it was still hard to let them go. I can't imagine letting go to someone in myfamily that I love. But everyone will leave at some stage. Sometimes without even getting to say goodbye.

Least We Forget

  1. Hi there Lauren,

I really enjoyed reading your opinion on the Flanders Field poem. It is quite a deep and emotional poem; it really expresses the feelings of sadness and sorrow for the loss of the ANZAC’s during WWI. Do you know of any relatives that were a part of the war? My mum told me that my Great Grandfather fought in the war; he came back deaf from manning the loud machine weapons.

I like how you mention the lines in the poem that stood out for you, that shows you were really analyzing and thinking deeply about what the words meant and connected to. And I love how you connected your own personal experience with loss, even if it was just your pets; they are just as much a part of a family as any people are! And I’ve experience loss with my own pets before and it is very sad and hard to lose them as much as relatives. Great job on this post Lauren, very well written! Keep it up!

Looking forward to reading more of your blog!
