Summer Learning Journey:Day 5, Part 1

After 6 long years of fighting, World War 2 finally came to a stop. It stopped in 1945. All of New Zealand had a VE party. VE stands for Victory in England. Everyone would celebrate. Our first task for today is to imagine we were back in the 1945s and we were hosting our own VE party. Who would we invite? What would we do?

Activity 1-
1) I would invite: My family. Grandparents, parents, brother, cousins etc. My friends. Neighbourhood? Anyone that I know basically.

2) What would we do: Go to the beach and have a swim. Host a BBQ and cook burgers, hot dogs, meat etc. Play sports like basketball, cricket, soccer/football, volleyball. Have dinner together.

  1. Hi Lauren,

I like your list of invitees to your VE party. I'd invite everyone I know too. It would be hard to believe that the war was over after 6 long years... I think I'd feel that we had more than earned a party!!!

And I love your idea of having everyone go to the beach and have a barbeque. Here in Canada where I live, May is early spring time. We wouldn't be likely to go swimming at that time, but we could certainly have a big picnic and play games, as you suggest.

I hope you're enjoying your summer holidays - perhaps going to the beach yourself.

Keep up your good work!! I'll look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future.

  2. Hi there Lauren,

Jade F here from the Summer Learning Journey.

Great job on your activity, I really liked reading through your VE Day guest list. I would probably invite everybody that I knew as well! I also loved your ideas of activities to do during your VE Day party, I think going to the beach and having a BBQ would be a perfect way to celebrate!I used to live in Samoa and every time there was a special occasion we would always head to the beach for a barbecue!

Keep up the amazing blog posts Lauren and I look forward to reading more!

    Cheers
    Jade F :)
