Summer Learning Journey:Day 4, Part 1

We have made it to day 4 already! Wow. Today's first activity is to use google to find a waiata. A Waiata is the name given to a Maori song. I know a few Waiata already.

Activity 1-
My favorite Waiata is Ka Pioioi. I like the song because we learnt the actions to it at school. It is also a catching song.

Here is the song-

Another song I like is He Honore. It is also part of a karakia. We also sing it at school at the end of hui's or assembly's.  There may be actions but I do not know them.

Here is the song-

  1. Hi Lauren,

Ruby here from the Summer Learning Journey team!
Great work with this activity! You've chosen two great waiatas. I didn't know the first one you attached but I love "He Honore" as well! I don't think there are any actions for it.

What do the words in Ka Pioioi mean? It's important to know the meaning of the songs we are singing! I think it's just as important to like the meaning of the lyrics as it is to like the tune.

I look forward to reading more of your blog over summer.
    Cheers,
    Ruby,
