Summer Learning Journey:Day 2, Part 1

We have made it to day 2, week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. Today is also Boxing Day. The first activity for today is to watch the trailer for Gold Rush (an old movie) and based on the trailer, what we think the movie is about. The movie type is comedy. There is no talkings, just music. Therefore, the movie is a silent movie. When there is a silent movie, there would only be words, no talking. Then we have to explain whether or not people would enjoy a silent movie.

Gold Rush Trailer-

Activity 1-
I have no honest clue about what the movie is about. I think (based on the title), that the movie is about a group of miners trying to find some gold. But there is a few challenges along the way. Besides that...I have no clue whatsoever.

People these days would NOT want to watch a silent film. Or in black and white. Watching black and white tv with no sound is as bad as not watch tv at all :( But people back in those days would be used to silent films, because they grew up with it. I personally wouldn't want to watch a silent film. It's like watching a book with moving pieces for 1 and a half hours. As I said before, because there is no talking, there is just music. The music would start to drive me CRAZY!!!

  1. Hi there Lauren,

Awesome response in your activity, I agree that if I were watching a silent film for an hour and half the music would start drive me nuts! And you’re right about today, not many people would be interested in watching silent movies as they were back in the day because the film industry has evolved incredibly overtime. In those days, the characters in silent films focused more on physical comedy which was the style of humor where the characters would use their movements and facial expressions to tell the story. Which was very popular back then. They even use physical comedy in some movies today! Also silent films included subtitles which made it easier for the audience to understand what the characters were saying! If you watch through scenes in the Lion Cage, it includes brief subtitles! Would you watch silent films if there were more constant subtitles? Let me know in a comment!

Keep up the amazing blogging Lauren and looking forward to reading more of your posts!

    Cheers
    Jade F :)
