Summer Learning Journey:Day 4, Part 1

Today's story talks about World War 2. It started on September 1st 1938. Our first task is to look at the WWII timeline and write about 2 events that happened during this time. Include the people who were involved, where it was etc. I decided to do 11th June 1940. New Zealand and North Africa decide to invade Italy. The second one is 1942 30th April. New Zealand prepares for possible invasion.

Activity 1-
11th June 1940: On the 11th of June, 1940, New Zealand and North Africa decide to invade Italy. The Long Range Desert Group was formed in North Africa in 1940. Along with New Zealand, Rhodesian as well as British Volunteers. Australians were not included. They all decided to invade Italy.

1942 30th April: On the 30th of April, 1942, New Zealand prepared for a possible invasion. Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium and France were attacked by the Germany. Britain faced direct threat or being invaded or attacked too. New Zealand, being on the other side of the world, felt safe and away from the Danger Zone. That was until they spotted German lurking in the water. They feared there would be more. They got prepared in case they did get attacked or invaded. Some cities even  evacuated.

  1. Hi there Lauren,

Great job on your blog post! I'm very impressed with how much research you put in the two events that you have chosen. It really shows me how much effort you have put in your work. Brilliant! What made you choose those two events in particular? Let me know in a comment! Were there any other events on the timeline that stood out to you? The event on 4th of October, New Zealand Government announces the formation of a Maori battalion for 2 NZEF really stood out for me.

Hope to hear from you soon and keep up the blog posting!

    Cheers,
    Jade F :)
