Summer Learning Journey:Day 4, Part 1

One of the most famous children’s stories to ever come out of New Zealand, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, was written by a kiwi woman named Lynley Dodd. The book was originally published in 1983. It is now sold in dozens of countries around the world. It features a small dog named Hairy. Our first task for today is to use the story starter (from the original book) to write a small book about it. I have no idea how these stories go, so I made up one.

Activity 1-
Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. He strolled down the street. A dog soon followed him. Together, they walked to find some meat. A nice smell lingered in the air. Hairy Maclary followed the smell. His new friend also followed. The smell lead them to a hot dog stand. Watch out people, here we come. The dogs leap up onto the desk. They eat to their heart's content. With their stomachs all full, Hairy Maclary went back to Donaldson's Dairy.

  1. Hi there Lauren,

Jade F here from the Summer Learning Journey. I thought your short story on Hairy Maclary was fantastic. I thought the part where they went to a hot dog stand and jumped onto the stand and had a feast. I thought that was funny! And definitely something a clever dog would do! Check this fella out as he tried to the same thing as Hairy Maclary did in your story (only it wasn't a hot dog stand, it was a kitchen bench!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIAqo86jUXI

Looking forward to reading more of your posts Lauren, keep up the good work!
