Summer Learning Journey:Day 3, Part 2

Over the past few decades, there has been a huge rise in the number of people coming to New Zealand to live and/or travel. Our second task is to post a picture of our hometown. My hometown is Christchurch. We also have to include 3 things tourists can do there.

Activity 2-

Photo of Christchurch-

Tourist Attractions-
1. Look around the City Center. During the 2011 earthquake (in Christchurch), the City Center got destroyed. Since then, the city has got rebuilt and no whas the southern hemisphere's biggest/largest playground. This is called the Margret Mahy playground.
2. Go the International Antarctic Center. There is a place in town where you can learn about Antarctica right up close. You can feed the penguins, watch 4d movies, go on a hagelin ride and you can even survive a snowstorm (in the snow simulator room)!
3. The Christchurch Gondola. Christchurch has its own gondola. It is located in the hills. You get a good view of Christchurch from there. A Gondola is a line of different carts going around (up and down). It moves slowly so you can get a good view and some good photos. There is also one in Queenstown.

  1. Hi there Lauren,

Jade F here from the Summer Learning Journey team!

Great job on this blog post. I thought your three activities to do Christchurch were awesome. I've never stayed in Christchurch long enough to go and have a look around. The gondola sounds like heaps of fun and the Margret Mahy playground sounds likes a cool place to take my little cousins to, to have a play on. The international Antarctica centre sounds like a fun place to go to, I would love to feed the penguins! Have you been there before?

If you had to rank your three activities from favourite to least favourite, what would it be? Let me know in a comment! :)

Hope to hear from your soon and keep up the awesome blog posts.

    Cheers,
    Jade F :)

  2. Hey Lauren,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team! It's great to read another post of yours, it's always exciting to see that you are actively blogging and enjoying doing the activities!

I have been down to Christchurch during the New Years week in 2016. I really liked South Island, I think the nature in South Island is more stunning than North Island. I was so sad to see all the destroyed buildings and graffiti everywhere in Christchurch city. However, there was this cool place that I loved called the 'Re:Start Container Mall'. There were many container boxes that transformed into a shop and cafes. It was so cool and I look a lot of photos there!

I've also been up the big mountain by gondola! It was scary but also very exciting! People and buildings became very tiny and I felt like I was the biggest! When I reached the top of the mountain, I had a nice hot coco and some snacks. We went around and saw the view of Christchurch city from the above.

I can never forget Christchurch and all the exciting activities we've done there. I really want to go and visit Christchurch again!

I can't wait to come back to read more of your blog posts :)

    All the best,
    Jade C.
