In recent years, many New Zealanders have embraced a new form of exercise called Zumba©. It was developed by a man named Alberto Perez who lives in the country of Columbia. He created Zumba by bringing together many different dance styles including: cumbia, mambo, hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, tango, merengue and mambo. Our bonus task for today is to research one of these dances. Which country did it originate? Who originally created it? I choose to do the Salsa.
Bonus Activity-
Where it was originally created in- Carbbean
Who created it- Cuba Son
Interesting Facts-
1. The salsa is made up of different styles of dances.
2. As the dancer shifts their weight from one leg to another, their upper body seems unaffected. Because of the weight change, it causes the hips to move/swing.
3. The leader (of the dance) has their right hand on the followers back. While the follower puts their left hand on the leaders shoulder.

Hi there Lauren,
ReplyDeleteThe salsa is such a beautiful dance, I never really thought about the technical side of the dance but hearing from your facts about how it's all about shifting your weight from your legs to your hips and vice versa. That is so interesting!
Have you tried it before? My friends and I have done at the salsa for fun and we really enjoyed it. :)
Looking forward to reading more of your blog posts and keep up the good work!
