Day 6 Olympics Reading Activities

It is now day 6 of the Rio Olympics Activities we have been doing. I have gotten all of the points in total so far so I'm on the right track to getting Gold. As always, I say 'the first activity for today was where we had to...' But today I will be saying-

What we had to do to earn 4 points, was to look at the 3 previous Olympics uniforms and answer what one we liked the best, 2nd and 3rd. Then write why we choose to put them in that order. These are the three pictures-

  1. New Zealand Team Uniform – London Olympics 2012

3. New Zealand Olympic Team Uniform – Athens Olympics 2004

I think that all of them represent NZ because of the ferns (All Blacks) and the black and white colour.
So this is the order I put them in- 1st place, number 3, 2nd place number 2 and last (3rd) place would be 1

I have chosen this order because number 3 shows the fern from the All Blacks the most and it's black and white, like the All Blacks. NZ is pretty much all about rugby, saying that we have the best team and the most famous one. Showing the rugby is a very strong feature about New Zealand. I choose number 2 to be second because it is still black and white and has the fern on it but the black and white on the fern made it look a bit different. It should have been one bold colour (black or white). It should have been white because the main colour behind the fern is black/grey. Number 1 picture is the 3rd because (mainly girls) the uniforms look like a flight attendant and the boys uniform look just like a everyday type of uniform.  There's no fern and the only place that there is a fern is really small on the logo of the jacket.

Activity 2-
We imagined that the 2024 Olympics were going to be held in New Zealand and we were (somehow) chosen to choose one of the following members to introduce in the opening ceremony and why we choose them. The options were - 1. Richie McCaw, a retired rugby player,  2. Lorde, a singer, 3. Kane Williamson, cricket player, 4. Maria Tutaia, netball player, 5. John Key, Prime Minister or New Zealand and lastly, 6. Shaun Johnson who is a league player.
I chose John Key because he represents New Zealand by being the prime minister. He has made lots of talks on TV and is good at making decisions and choosing the right choice. He is important to New Zealand because he goes to important meeting to talk about something. We looks after the country by spending money on the right things to help us with our needs.

Bonus activity is worth 12 points!!!!
We had to finish this story in our own imagination and it has to be 10 - 20 sentences long. This is the sentence-
Imagine that you are sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympics this August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden…
This is what I would say-

The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden… someone from our team tripped over and hurt his/her knee. They were competing in sprint but can no longer run fast so can't compete. The whole team were not sure what to do and kept on asking if they would be fine to run. But he/she always replied 'No sorry.' Everyone got worried and asked the leader of Rio 2016 Olympics what to do. He smiled and replied (in portuguese) 'you should keep calm because it's not competition, but a chance to make new friends.' Everyone agreed and happily took the fact that they were one short, one chance down for a gold medal but they were fine with it. After all, New Zealand is a caring country! :)

  1. Well done Lauren, you have put a lot of effort into your activities for Day 6. I like the reasoning you gave for putting the London Olympics Uniform last. I also agree that is sort of looks like something a flight attendant would wear.

  2. Good work Lauren! Interesting, it seems that your imaginative story has happened in real life, well sort of. It's like the news about the American and Kiwi runner who helped each other while running a 5km race .Did you predict the future?
