Layering in watercolours is where the painter slowly builds up the watercolour in their artwork until they are happy with it. They add another layer once the previous layer has dried. Sgraffito is Italian for scratched and this painting technique involves adding paint to a base then scratching parts of it out in patterns so that parts of the colour underneath it becomes visible. Monoprinting is a form of printing making in which the artwork can only be created once and cannot be copied, unlike other original artworks.
