Painter's Block

A painter's block (or an art block) is something that can very easily happen to painters. Painter's block means that a painter isn't able to generate ideas or able to execute the technique they want, which leads to them getting frustrated and perhaps stops doing art for a bit. In art class, because we are painters, we also have to be careful if this happens to us as it can put us behind in our portfolio work. This is why we generated some ideas on what we should/can do if we feel that we're experiencing painter's block.

Firstly, we read this article and took notes on what it says the author does when they feel that they have painter's block. Some methods include having a tidy workspace (this puts you in the right mindset), having another piece that you can have fun with (it doesn't matter how it turns out so you can just experiment with whatever you like), and just going for it (the first step is often the hardest).

If I were to experience painter's block this year while working on my portfolio, I think the best thing for me to do is to allow myself to take a break. If I'm trying to push myself to do art when I'm not in the right mindset, I think that the quality of my work isn't going to be the best that it can be, and I'm probably not going to be very focused (if at all) on my painting. I'm most likely going to experience painter's block because of a build-up of stress from my other subjects, so I think it will be best to finish the work for those subjects first, then work on my portfolio again because art is supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
