Visual & Sound Techniques

In English we've been focusing on Film Study. A part of film study that we're looking into is visual and sound techniques. To show our learning, we had the option to present it as a 'Language of film dictionary', a Kahoot, a 'Pick-a-path' sort of thing or a crossword. I chose to present it as a crossword from an online generator I found. The website only allowed 10 words to be entered at a time, so I had to split the words onto two different sheets. Therefore there is a part 1 and 2. The answers are all to do with either sound or visual techniques used in films.

By doing this activity we deepen our understanding about what different visual and sound techniques are used in films and what the directors purpose was for using this.
The words that we had to include were all given to us but the clues were written in our own words, so we also learnt some new words by doing this activity.
Now that we've looked further into the directors purpose of the usage of sound and visual techniques, I know that every item laid out in a scene has been placed there for a specific reason and every hairstyle or outfit put on has a meaning. It's not exactly just there because the director thought it looked nice.

  1. Hey Lauren,
I am Miss Morgan and work for the Uru Mānuka Cluster which Hornby High is a part of. I found your post really interesting, especially that last paragraph. Thank you for explaining what you were learning about in more detail. I wonder if there is a way to add a link to the crosswords so people could fill them out online? That'd be pretty cool! Which film did you use as an example for these techniques?
    - Miss Morgan
