How Far Can A Sneeze Travel?

Aim: To find the distance that a sneeze can travel.

Plan:
Equipment needed:

Food colouring
Butcher paper
Plastic cups
Tissues
Ruler
Water
Tape

Method:

  1. Lay the paper out in front of you in a straight line for about 7 meters.
  2. Get your cup and fill it with 100ml of water.
  3. Put as much as 10 drops in the cup full of water.
  4. Put 5-10ml of water in your mouth and leave it there (don't swallow).
  5. Spit a tiny amount of water out of your mouth.
  6. You can either try to sneeze or you can fake sneeze the water out.
  7. When sneezing, try to look up so that the food colouring and the water won't go on your uniform.
  8. Measure how far you sneeze and compare it to a friend if possible.

Doing:
Hypopiesis: I think that the sneeze (coloured water) will fly 5.5 meters.

Result:
I learnt that a sneeze can travel 3 meters. If you have a cold, you can spread if you don't cover your nose for anyone that is within 3 meters or you.

Shortest Sneeze - Sophie - 1.13m
Longest Sneeze -Summer - 3.10m
Inbetween -
Tia - 1.79m
Kasey- 2.20m
Lorelei - 2.60

  1. Hey Lauren, I really like your blog post. I love how at the end you have had an estimate of how far you think your sneeze will go. I also Love the way you have laid out your post and put down what you need. Maybe Next time you could Add fonts or colours if you can but except from that Great Job Lauren.
