This week, our school tried something new for the first time. Every student at Hornby will get kai (food) delivered to our class at the end of period two. We get 15 minutes allocated to get the food and eat it, before being allowed to go out for about 30 minutes of break. In our class, we arrange the tables into a long line and have chairs on both sides of the desk. That way, we can get closer to our classmates and feel more comfortable around them because we are one big whānau. A lot of us feel uncomfortable and uneasy being so close to people that we may not be very close to yet; many of us would rather eat at our own tables with our own friends. Every day and every week, we will get given a different meal so we can get a variety of food as well as a healthy balance of nutrients.
I don't mind sitting so close to my classmates because I have a friend who always sits close to me so I don't feel scared. My favourite meal was on Wednesday since we had pasta salad with chicken along with plum and corn chips. The plum was quite unripe and therefore sour and the corn chips were very salty. I enjoyed the pasta salad even though it was rather cold.
