Limerick Poems 2018

In writing we have been looking at poems and have finished rhyming poems and now focusing on limerick poems. Limericks are a 5 lined poem and the structure is to do with syllables and rhyming words. The guide for the lines are that the first, second and fifth lines have to have 7-10 syllables and the end word has to rhyme with each other. The third and fourth line have 5-7 syllables and those two have to rhyme with each other as well.

Her are my examples of a limerick poem (Chai and Caterpillar are the nicknames of my friends).

Hobbies
When I’m at home I like to dance
Then I go on the tramp just to bounce.
I really enjoy gymnastics,
I think it is fantastic.
My cat and I both love to prance.

Drawing
In my spare time I love to start drawing
Since it feels like my fingers are dancing.
My wrist moves light as a feather,
As my fingers work together.
It’s like the drawings are really talking.

Chai
I have a really good friend named Chai
When I first met her she was kinda shy
At the end of the day,
I go out of my way.
Just to make sure I always get to say bye.

Caterpillar
Believe it or not I’m friends with a bug,
She’s a really great person to hug.
She’s there when I’m down
And messes around like a clown.
I’m thankful she’s a bug and not a slug.

  1. Wow! Lauren these are amazing poems, it is really descriptive and they all rhyme. I especially liked the Chai poems because your saying that you are loyal to your friend. Next time check your spelling and proof read it. Anyways keep up the great work!
