Art Semester 2

In Art, we explored various paint techniques including textures and we got a bit creative and took risks with our work. We worked with stencils and our model artist was Banksy. I copied a rabbit and cut it out with a craft knife. I then used paint to go over my stencil and onto a piece of paper and tried different ideas with it. For the first one, I painted it with a red/pink base and used white paint after to dab on everywhere over the top of it. With my second one, I used a light blue to a darker blue and since it was a bit plain, I added the same colours to the bottom to make it look like a cloud. Then I got annoyed at something so I splattered red paint everywhere. Even so, I liked how it turned out; it was a good representation of my personality, it can change fast.

We did art on a bigger piece of paper, so we had more space to try out new ideas. So the first one I tried to blend colours together, but it didn't go that great. The colours were no longer a gradient so it had started to become a mess of colours. I suddenly had the idea to flicker paint onto what I had already done, and my friend at my table showed me how to how it. You get some paint on your brush and use another brush to hit the first brush against. This motion caused the paint to fall off and it makes the splatter effect. It's also a good idea to dip the brush in some water so the paint will be able to flick easier.

I tried again to make a gradient, but once I added the blue to the red, pink and white, it became murky and once again, turned into a mess. Trying to make the most out of the situation, I kept adding streaks of colour over top one another and it kind of turned out nice.

With the last one I did, I learnt from my mistakes in the past and attempted the gradient from a blue/purple to a pink/white. Even though it turned successful (at least better than previous attempts), it had looked plain. Since it was at the end of the lessons and we were gonna pack up, so I quickly grabbed a tissue paper and dipped it in the white paint. I then dabbed it over the page and I feel like it gave it a soft vibe.

We then started another type of art and used a white and black undercoat on our page. Then we painted something over the top. I was out of ideas so I just did a sphere, and because I couldn't lift my arm up since I played badminton the previous day and got a really sore arm, I did both with my left hand. I'm very uncoordinated with my left side so I was surprised (but pleased) with the way it turned out, even if I did go outside the lines a few times.

  2. Kia ora Lauren, I love that you are insightful and thoughtful when you write. it gives me a better idea of your ideas and intentions and you are a good writer to boot. I love looking at your paint techniques too as they would pass off as really cool abstract art pieces. Im looking forward to seeing what you do with the mural project next.
