Home Economics

In Home Economics we managed to bake scones, pizza swirls, cupcakes, spiced apple muffins and ginger gems along with savory bread cases (a fast and simple snack) and chicken stir fry. Looking back at all the baked goods we made, some of them turned out well and some not as much. The biggest fail we had was probably the pizza swirls. While mixing the base for it, someone in our group added too much milk and the entire mixture went sticky and doughy. It was no longer able to hold its shape together therefore we had to scratch the pizza swirls idea and turn whatever we had into scones. Just role whatever was left of it into balls and chuck it in the oven. The outcome looked a lot like fish fillets but it tasted quite good to be honest. Something that came out well was probably the apple muffins. We used canned apples (apples in a can) rather than a chopped apple to make it easier for us. The outcome was good and it looked, smelt and tasted great. A recipe that was made wrong but turned out well was the ginger gems. What we all should have done was dissolve the baking soda in the milk but instead we all did something like mix the dry ingredients with each other and the liquids with each other. The outcome was still ready good, and personally my favorite of the term, but if we dissolved the baking soda in the milk it would have had a more golden outcome. It was good otherwise. A recipe that I wasn't there for were the cupcakes. When we were going to ice them the following day (when I was there) it turned out that a lot of them had somewhat failed. I didn't know what in particular failed but some of them were unevenly spread out [one having more than the other etc.] and others had mixture on the paper or tray in the oven and burnt the bits. The icing turned out pretty good, at least alright I think.

How do you think you worked with your team?

We did change groups a couple of times but I think that my group in general worked alright with each other. There were a couple of times where some people would stand around and talk or not know what to do but it always got sorted out.
