Last week on wednesday, 10 year 7s went on a out of school trip. The trip was to Christ's College which is a college for boys. Miss Tozer (my form teacher) took us their. The ride took about 20-30 minutes long. We went in the school van. The rest of the year 7s went to Tech as normal. We had lunch in the van. Once we arrived, it took a while for me to take the scenery in. The buildings were made out of stone and looked like a old village. The buildings went as high as tall trees. It looked as though the school trapped you in. All of it looked movie like, Harry Potter like. We headed to a door, and got name tags and a bag. The bag contained things like a yo-yo, diary note pad, a Pump Mini drink bottle, a booklet about the programme we were at and other things. The first speaker was Cameron. He had a disability from birth that made him shaky and his voice muffled. He was quite a good speaker. The message he was explaining was to not give up and you can achieve what you want. The doctors said he would need a wheelchair for the rest of his life but now he can walk by himself. He trained to be a runner for about 11 years. His dad wanted to be a professional dog trainer (like for movies), even though he was really bad at spelling, and managed to achieve his dream.
Then we got split into workshops. I was in the Lorde (the singer) group. Your group that you were in was under you name and your school. The first workshop was to work with a bunch of different people that you didn't know and using the materials on the table you had to create a safe landing place to put your egg in and drop it off a balcony. Out groups one survived the fall.
The next workshop was a talk with the 24/7 people. They talked about what animal (leader) you were. Lion meaning you can get given a task and do it straight away, giving jobs to people. Bever meaning they get the jobs done. Otter is a fun kind of person that makes work fun and turns it into a game. The last one is Golden Retriver and it means to be a peacemaker and work collaboratively. We got given a sheet of paper and there were the animal categories. You had to tick the words that describe you and the animal with the most ticks is what kind of leader you are. I ended up with lion.
After we got a biscuit to eat we headed back to school. By the time we got back, it was 4:00.
The thing I enjoyed most was Phil and his friends (the 24/7 workers) talk. They were funny and enjoyable to listen to.
The key message that stood out to me was the 24/7 workers and that I got to find out what kind of leader I am.
A thing that I learned about myself was that I could be anything as long as I work hard and keep working toward my goals. Even if it takes 9 years.
